Editorial Policy & Testing Methodology

How we test codecs, document file specifications, verify client-side privacy, and maintain rigorous editorial integrity across MixConvert.

Last reviewed & updated: September 2026

1. Our Editorial Mission

At MixConvert, our mission is to provide accurate, transparent, and authoritative information about digital file formats, container specifications, compression codecs, and in-browser WebAssembly technologies.

Digital file conversion has historically been plagued by low-quality websites filled with generic boilerplate, broken automated utilities, undisclosed cloud uploads, and misleading file size claims. We hold our content and tools to an engineering-grade standard: every guide, format comparison, and troubleshooting tip published on MixConvert is based on real-world testing, verified RFC standards, and open-source codec implementations.

2. Codec Testing & Benchmarking Methodology

Before supporting or documenting any conversion pair (e.g., HEIC to JPG, PDF to DOCX, MP4 to MP3), our engineering team conducts structured benchmarks across multiple test vectors:

Lossless Fidelity & Visual Parity

We evaluate structural similarity (SSIM) and peak signal-to-noise ratios (PSNR) for raster graphics, color profile consistency (sRGB vs. Display P3), and glyph-level layout preservation for document conversions.

Browser Sandbox Memory Limits

We test memory allocation profiles using Chrome DevTools Heap Snapshots and WebAssembly memory growth metrics to prevent browser tab crashes during high-resolution multi-megabyte processing.

Cross-Platform Performance

Conversions are profiled on Chromium, Gecko (Firefox), and WebKit (Safari) across desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux) and mobile (iOS, Android) architectures to ensure uniform compatibility.

Edge Case & Corruption Handling

We intentionally feed truncated headers, corrupted metadata tracks, and atypical container flags to document precise failure modes and clear troubleshooting guidance for users.

3. Zero-Upload Privacy Verification Protocol

MixConvert claims guaranteed client-side mathematical privacy. We do not ask users to blindly trust our claims; we provide transparent, verifiable instructions so anyone can confirm that zero bytes leave their machine:

  1. Open your browser's Developer Tools (Press F12 or right-click and select Inspect).
  2. Select the Network tab and filter by Fetch/XHR.
  3. Drag and drop a test file into MixConvert and click Convert.
  4. Observe the network log: zero outgoing POST, PUT, or upload requests occur. All processing happens within browser RAM via compiled WebAssembly Workers.

For detailed network analysis and independent auditing steps, read our full Security Architecture Proof.

4. Editorial Independence & Advertising Disclosures

MixConvert is supported by clean, standardized contextual advertising (such as Google AdSense). Our advertising policies strictly uphold the following principles:

  • Separation of Content and Ads: Advertisements are clearly distinguished with an "ADVERTISEMENT" label and maintained at safe physical buffers (minimum 150px vertical margin) from conversion controls to eliminate accidental clicks.
  • No Sponsored Software Recommendations: We do not accept payment to promote proprietary software, codecs, or commercial tools in our format comparison tables. All recommendations are based solely on technical merit and open standards.
  • No Pop-ups or Intrusive Layout Shifts: We strictly prohibit interstitial overlays, auto-playing video ads with sound, or layout-shifting scripts that degrade user experience.

5. Ongoing Curation, Updates & Corrections Policy

Web standards, container specifications, and browser WebAssembly APIs evolve continuously. We conduct bi-monthly audits of our format guides, benchmark figures, and troubleshooting steps:

  • Revision Timestamps: Every guide and documentation page prominently displays its original publication date and most recent technical verification date.
  • Corrections: If a specification change or browser update impacts conversion behavior, we update our guides immediately. Readers can report discrepancies directly via our Technical Contact Channel.

6. Editorial Team & Technical Contacts

MixConvert's editorial content is curated and reviewed by our core engineering staff specializing in C/C++ compilation, WebAssembly toolchains, and digital media codecs.
