Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our zero-upload WebAssembly file converter, data privacy, and supported formats.

Security & Privacy Guarantee

Are my files uploaded to any cloud server or database?
No. MixConvert operates under a strict zero-upload architecture. When you select or drag-and-drop a file, it is loaded directly into your browser's local memory (RAM) via standard HTML5 APIs. The file conversion runs inside Web Workers using WebAssembly binaries. Zero bytes of your file ever touch our servers or any third-party cloud infrastructure.
How can I verify that my files are not being transmitted over the internet?
You can verify this in seconds using standard browser Developer Tools. Press F12 (or right-click and choose Inspect), select the Network tab, filter by Fetch/XHR, and perform a conversion. You will see that zero outbound HTTP requests containing your file bytes are transmitted.
Does MixConvert save my converted files or keep a history?
No. Because files are converted purely inside your device's temporary memory sandbox, nothing is stored in any database. When you close or refresh the browser tab, all temporary memory allocations are instantly cleared by the browser's garbage collector.
How does client-side conversion align with privacy regulations like GDPR?
MixConvert processes all files locally within your client browser memory using WebAssembly. Because no data packets containing file contents are ever transmitted to remote servers, MixConvert does not act as a remote data processor or custodial repository. Your files remain strictly within your local administrative custody.

Performance & File Size Limits

What are the file size limits on MixConvert?
There are no artificial file size paywalls. The only practical limit is your computer or smartphone's available physical RAM. Most modern laptops and phones can effortlessly convert multi-gigabyte video or audio files in-browser. For files over 2GB, we recommend closing unused browser tabs.
Why is local client-side conversion faster than cloud converters?
Traditional converters require two slow internet transfers: first uploading your massive file to their cloud, and then downloading the converted result. MixConvert eliminates both transfer steps entirely, spending 100% of the time on pure local computation with immediate disk-to-RAM access speeds.
Does MixConvert utilize multi-threading and hardware acceleration?
Yes. MixConvert leverages Web Workers, SharedArrayBuffer, and WebAssembly SIMD (Single Instruction, Multiple Data) instructions to distribute heavy computation across your device's available CPU cores without freezing the user interface.
Does MixConvert work offline without an active internet connection?
Yes. MixConvert is built as a Progressive Web App (PWA). Once loaded in your browser, the WebAssembly cores and assets are cached locally by service workers, allowing you to convert files on flights, trains, or remote areas without internet.

Format Support & Codec Compatibility

What file categories can MixConvert process?
MixConvert supports 259+ conversion pairs across 5 major categories: Images (HEIC, WebP, PNG, JPG, AVIF, SVG, TIFF, BMP, GIF), Video (MP4, WebM, MKV, AVI, MOV, FLV, WMV), Audio (MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG, M4A, WMA), Documents (PDF, DOCX, TXT), and Archives.
Can MixConvert convert Apple HEIC photos on Windows and Android?
Yes. Our compiled libheif WebAssembly core decodes Apple's High Efficiency Image Format directly on any operating system, allowing you to batch convert iPhone photos to standard JPG or PNG with full EXIF preservation.
Can I extract audio directly from video files?
Yes. MixConvert extracts pristine audio streams from any video container (e.g., MP4 to MP3, MOV to WAV) in seconds without re-encoding delays when stream copying is applicable.
Does MixConvert add watermarks to converted files?
Never. All conversions are 100% free, full-quality, and completely watermark-free.

Troubleshooting & Best Practices

Why did my conversion fail or stall?
Conversion stalls almost always correlate to browser memory pressure on extremely large files (e.g. 4K 60fps video clips over 1.5GB) or non-standard file encodings. We recommend converting high-resolution files individually or restarting your browser to free linear memory buffers.
Can I convert password-protected PDF or Word files?
No. For security and integrity reasons, client-side WebAssembly processors cannot decrypt files without user-provided decryption keys. Please remove the password in your authoring software prior to conversion.
Which browsers are recommended for optimal conversion speed?
Any modern evergreen browser with WebAssembly SIMD and SharedArrayBuffer support works flawlessly, including Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Mozilla Firefox, and Apple Safari (macOS and iOS).
